Introduction to role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Laboratory Steward to join Porton Biopharma, a leading biopharmaceuticals company located on the historic Porton Down site, in the picturesque countryside of Salisbury, Wiltshire.

Porton Biopharma Limited (PBL) is a limited liability company, established in 2015, to commercialise pharmaceutical development and manufacturing capabilities.  Our mission is to protect patients’ health through the quality-assured development and production of biopharmaceuticals.  We develop new vaccines, therapeutic proteins, and enzyme products, and manufacture our own licensed biopharmaceutical products, Erwinase® and the UK’s Anthrax Vaccine.

We offer specialist expertise in the development of both manufacturing and analytical processes for use with biological pharmaceutical products. Particularly in taking concepts from the research laboratory and progressing them through the various stages of scale-up and process development to manufactured product for licensed supply or clinical trial.

Key Responsibilities

MAIN DUTUES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The purpose of a Laboratory Steward is to provide support for the QC Department, which will include general maintenance of the QC laboratories and to ensure the departmental laboratories is maintained to GMP standards of cleanliness, tidiness and audit prepared.

• Perform general housekeeping to ensure the smooth running of the department
• Clean, monitor and calibrate equipment in the department
• Clean hand-wash basins, floors, walls and ceilings
• Clean laboratory glassware and restock cupboards
• Decontaminate and dispose of laboratory waste
• Stock check of consumables store, ordering, stock rotation and restocking of shelves
• Replenish laboratory chemicals, solvents and consumables
• Prepare equipment for calibration, validation, servicing and maintenance
• Manage PPE ensuring availability of lab coats, safety glasses, gloves and masks
• Assist laboratories in day-to-day tasks and support other team members in their duties
• Operate in compliance with SOPs, c/GMP and other regulatory requirements.

Personal Specification

• Have current right to work in the UK.
• An understanding of and commitment to equality of opportunity and good working relationships, in day to day practices and also in relation of management systems.
• Educated to at least NVQ level 2 or equivalent qualification in numerate/science-based subjects. Alternatively, significant experience in a similar role.
• Demonstrate understanding of Health & Safety and COSHH
• Experience of following written SOPs or work instructions
• Ability to work as part of a team
• Accurate and clear record keeping skills
• Ability to work with extreme care when cleaning laboratory equipment
